Schiphol Airport
If you got time to waste, Schiphol has roughly 40 shops. The food prices charged at most airports are rip-offs. I find the fast-food places here to be only a few cents higher than the prices charged in the city. Another plus: the terminal is smoke-free. Well, it's suppose to be but they don't do a very good job of enforcing it. Smoking is allowed in bar areas and the stench spills over to the pedestrian walkways. Outside the terminal is a big open area with benches for catching some sun and fresh air-that is if you can find a spot away from smokers. Isn't it funny how smokers like to toss their cigarette butts on the ground-as if it isn't litter? |
Over the years I've read quite a few
articles praising Schiphol Airport as being one of the most efficient
and traveler-friendly airports in the world. I decide to find
out first-hand and end up spending a weekend at the Hilton Hotel,
one of two hotel properties located inside the airport. You can
grab a train in Amsterdam's central station and it'll deposit
you under the airlines check-in counters in 15 minutes. If you
prefer to ride your bike, several bike paths take you through
and around the airport grounds.
