Saas Fee, Switzerland
Wow, what's not to like about Saas Fee? The panoramic vistas
are impressive, it's car-free, meaning all vehicles have to park
at the edge of town (similar to Zermatt, its neighbor on the
other side of the mountain) and there's lots to do. In some ski
towns visited being hemmed in by mountains left me feeling claustrophobic.
Not here. Cycling around the area with my touring bike was enjoyable
and imagine it would be even more so with a mountain bike. I
did a bit of hiking and it looks
like they have trails for every category of hiker. Zermatt caters
more to tourists and Sass Fee
seems more family-oriented. In the valley floor below one can
hop on a train to reach Zermatt. Saas Fee however, has no train
service and one needs to take a bus. As normal in most ski resorts,
some hotels here close down for the summer season. A wide spectrum
of accommodations to choose from in Saas Fee. I was a guest at
the Ferienart Resort &
Spa and this excellent five star property has no problem
getting the two thumbs up from me!
