Grimentz, Switzerland
Grimentz (population 1,500) isn't a
top-tier ski resort and isn't on the tourist route but, it occupies
a nice spot on the sunny slope of the mountains. The old
town village center probably ranks as the most beautiful
seen with its timbered chalets
and bountiful displays of flowers.
A ski lift whisks a few summer
visitors up the mountains and there isn't much in the way of
shops on the main drag through
town. Hundreds of chalets and
apartments dot the mountainsides and I get the feeling this place
is where many Swiss go to get away in the winter.
Is this place
hopping or is it dead in the summer?
Neither,
it has the feel and pace of a small village.
Is there a lake and/or golf course in town?
No.
Arriving by
car the only option?
There's
no train service but, you can catch a bus (every hour) from Sierre
in the valley floor.
Does the place feel claustrophobic?
No.
Lots of choices
for acccomodations (hotels/ chalets) and do I have recommendations?
Not many
choices for hotels with only two *** star properties and two
**star properties. However, many apartment and chalet rentals
are available.
Could I spend a whole summer here or would I get bored?
No, I would last less than a week here. |
