Wengen, Switzerland
The views are fantastic from
Wengen. The resort lies on a steep mountainside slope which pretty
much cancels out cycling. The shops
on main street are tourist
oriented. Walking options are
limited and there isn't much to the place. Must be a great place
in the winter for skiing.
Is this place
hopping or is it dead in the summer?
Lots of
tourists but it thins out later in the day when the day-trippers
leave.
Is there a lake and/or golf course in town?
No.
Arriving by
car the only option?
Wengen
is a car-free. In other car-free resorts like Saas Fee and Zermatt
one can arrive via car and park at the edge of town. That is
NOT an option here. You park your car down the mountain in Lauterbrunnen
and hop on the train.
Does the place feel claustrophobic?
It could as Wengen is built on the side of a mountain.
Lots of choices
for acccomodations (hotels/ chalets) and do I have recommendations?
Not a
big selection of hotels. I didn't spend a night in Wengen even
though I was offered a room at the four star Regina
Hotel.
Could I spend a whole summer here or would I get bored?
No, a week would be the max. |
